Last Chapter of Renegade on Kara: The Great Basin, now published.

Roger and Joshua

After some delays from health and other problems, I’ve gotten out the final Chapter of Renegade on Kara: The Great Basin, on Substack, ReamStories and on Patreon, so use whichever site you prefer.

Kara is an ancient, artificially created world, with an infinite surface taking up an entire universe. The race that created it, created it so that they could do magic there. Man discovered Kerra more than one thousand years before this story begins ((#1) see Kerra Discovered). Technology doesn’t work there, but man has learned to open gates from certain places that allow the laws of physic that allow technology to seep into Kera. The combination of magic and technology resulted in cities with populations larger than whole planets, managed by AIs that can themselves do magic. It also resulted in genetic enhancements of people to be superior mages, and the creation of mythical beasts, including dragons.

Into that mix you have Roger, the very top mage student at a university so prestigious and large it is simply called The University. He is from an academic family and is more interested in becoming a researcher than a mage. He has many of the problems that your privileged college kid has. But being top-student, others are always trying to cut him down to size. One of those goads him into a duel. It goes wrong, and Roger has to go on the run or be barred from the lands of magic forever. That means getting beyond the reach of technology before the AI’s start looking for him.
